RALEIGH, N.C. -- In Sunday's non-conference women's tennis match, the visiting Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets downed Meredith College 8-1. One's partners Aly Henneberry and Brittney Brown collected the Angels' lone win on the day.
With Meredith down 2-0 Henneberry and Brown put the Avenging Angels on the scoreboard heading into singles play with an 8-6 finish over R-MC's Morgan Fuqua and Avery Smith. Henneberry lost a 7-5 tiebreaker in set one of her singles match at no. 1, and Fuqua claimed the second 6-1 for the match.
Brown closed out the day with a three-set thriller. Brown captured the first set 7-5 before Kristin Dantzler tied the match with a 6-1 second. Dantzler went on to win the third frame 10-0 for the match.
Alexandra Cheney and Logan King battled on court three for an 8-4 finish. Cheney garnered just two games in her loss to Avery Smith on singles court three, and King struggled for her three points at no. 4.
On singles court five, rookie Ashlyn Austin lost 6-1, 6-1, and she and partner Amelie Gillies could not find a way into their 8-0 loss versus Kristin Dantzler and Landon Aud at no. 2.
Hollins University marks Meredith's next outing with a home court advantage Thursday, March 5, at 4 p.m.
