Soccer Defeats Pfeiffer, 1-0

Box Score

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer team got back on the winning track after claiming a 1-0 victory against Pfeiffer at the Meredith Athletic Complex in USA South action on Tuesday night.

With the win, the Avenging Angels move to 5-3-2 on the year with a 3-1-2 in conference games, while the Falcons drop to 1-10 overall with a 1-5 mark in league play.

Meredith held a majority of the possession in the first half of the contest with 10 shots from the home side, but only two of those shots were on frame. Meredith also tried to take advantage of a pair of corner kicks in the opening period to no avail.

In the second half, the Avenging Angels peppered another nine shots at the goal and eventually found the back of the net. Meredith Warrick played a deep cross into the box that bounced freely before Morgan Thomas was able to direct the ball into the back of the goal for the eventual game-winning score with just 12 minutes left on the clock. The goal serves as Thomas' team-leading third score of the season.

The contest was the fourth shutout of the season for Meredith and second straight clean sheet for Miranda Lutz after a scoreless draw against Salem on Saturday afternoon.

Lutz was able to grab all three shots that were on frame, while Britney Levy made four saves in the loss.

Meredith held a 19-4 advantage in shots and each side took a pair of corner kicks.

The Avenging Angels are back in action on Friday, Oct. 15, with a matchup featuring two top-four teams in the USA South East as MC travels to face Mary Baldwin at 3:30 pm.
