Soccer's Season Comes to an End at USA South Tournament

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Meredith College women's soccer program saw its season come to an end in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament with a 1-0 loss at Covenant on Saturday afternoon.

With the result, the Avenging Angels finish their season with a 6-6-2 record, while the Scots move on the the semifinals of the league tournament and sit with a record of 11-5-2 and the No. 2 seed out of the West division.

Covenant nearly took advantage of a foul in the box that resulted in a penalty kick, but goalkeeper Miranda Lutz was able to push it high to maintain the scoreless game in the 50th minute of the contest. The Scots did get past the keeper a few minutes later when Mae Pierce notched her forth goal of the season, which served as the game-winning goal. 

Lutz had a stellar performance stopping 10 of the 11 shots on target. The first-team All-East division selection at goalkeeper set a season-high with those 10 saves. Meanwhile Lucy Sandhoff made two saves in the contest. 

Covenant held a 16-6 advantage in shots overall, while also earning nine corner kicks compared to zero for Meredith.
