Meredith Soccer Blanked by William Peace

CARY, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer program saw its four-match unbeaten streak come to an end in a 3-0 loss to William Peace at the WakeMed Soccer Park on Wednesday afternoon.

With the result, the Avenging Angels drop to 4-3-1 on the year with a 2-1-1 mark in USA South contacts. Meanwhile, the Pacers improve to 3-4-2 and pick up their first conference win and sit at 1-2-1 in league play.

In the first half, neither side could find the back of the goal despite 11 total shots between both teams. Meredith compiled seven attempts with two of them on frame. The contest went into the recess tied 0-0.

Just five minutes into the second stanza, Brooke Bonner broke the scoreless draw to put the Pacers up 1-0. In the 74th minute, Raine Greene notched the second goal for the home side before Dayna Kenworthy added on an insurance goal at the 80:05 mark.

Miranda Lutz made two saves in all 90 minutes for the Avenging Angels, while Abigail Mosteller stopped all three shots she faced.

Overall, WPU held a 12-10 advantage in shots, while Meredith finished with a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Avenging Angels return to action on Saturday, Oct. 9, at home, against Salem beginning at 12 pm.
