Tennis Opens with 5-2 Win Over Pacers

RALEIGH, N.C. -- After a series of weather challenges, the Meredith College tennis team finally opened the 2021 season and claimed a 5-2 win over the host William Peace Pacers.

Doubles play opened the late afternoon contest, and the Avenging Angels opened 3-0 sweep. Aly Henneberry paired up with freshman Savannah Duduk out of Bryantown, Md. for an 8-6 win on court no. 1. Logan King and rookie Summer Elkins, from Zirconia, N.C. on the South Carolina line north of Greenville, posted an 8-5 win over Pacers Tia Silva and Kayleigh Kotofsky.

In singles action all but court two played out with scores of 6-0, 6-1, or 6-2. But Duduk battled to the end with Camryn Strughn in a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win in favor of the Pacers.

Meredith returns to action Saturday at Averett for an 11 a.m. start.
