Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College field hockey program continues to check off a list of "firsts" this season, as today the Avenging Angels opened their home schedule with a 6-0 loss to Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon.
The contest marks the first-ever home competition for the 10th intercollegiate athletic program sponsored at Meredith.
The Avenging Angels held the Tigers to two goals throughout the first half before Wittenberg struck for one in the third quarter and a trio of goals in the final period.
Before the contest began, a moment of silence was shared with those in attendance in rememberance of the events of September 11, 2001, and the National Anthem was sung by member of the field hockey team, Cynthia Styron Sanchez.
Shae-Lynn Henderson continues to stack up saves as she stopped 23 shots on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Emma Hurguy, Caitlin Archdeacon and Lyndsey Seagraves all shared time as goalkeeper for the Tigers.
The Avenging Angels are right back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 15, as they host Ferrum beginning at 6 pm.
