Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer team pushed its winning streak to three games after a 1-0 win against N.C. Wesleyan in USA South action on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Avenging Angels sit at 4-2 on the season with a 2-0 mark in league play and are currently tied for first in the East Division. Meanwhile, the Battling Bishops drop to 2-6-1 overall behind an 0-2 record in conference action.
The first half came and went without any scoring chances as the score remained 0-0 at the break. In the second half, time ticked away without a score until the 74th minute when Lillian Fox played a through ball between a pair of defenders to Morgan Thomas who notched her second game-winning goal in as many games to boost the Angels to a 1-0 lead. The Battling Bishops fought for the remaining 15 minnutes, but were unable to find an equalizer as Meredith held on for the victory.
For the game, Meredith outshot the visitors 8-6, while N.C. Wesleyan held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Miranda Lutz stopped both shots on goal and also grabbed several intended crosses in the win, while Alicia Jacobs pushed aside three shots in defeat.
The Avenging Angels are back in action Friday, Oct. 1, at Greensboro for a 7 pm start at Pride Field.
