Avenging Angels Start the Season with a Win

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Meredith College socer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory againt Bob Jones on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon. 

After several schedule changes to start the season, the Avenging Angels finally hit the field and moved to 1-0.

The game-winning goal came from Kaelin Sanderford who struck in the 79th minute of the contest. Meredith played a majority of the second half with 10 players after a red card was shown in the 56th minute.

Miranda Lutz stopped seven shots, including five after the red card, in the win, while Susanna Hutson made eight saves on nine shots on goal.

As a team, the Avenging Angels had 18 shots compared to 13 for the Bruins. Meredith also had an edge in corners, 5-2, as well.

Meredith returns to the pitch on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Guilford with a scheduled start time of 11 am.
