FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Meredith soccer program dropped its first USA South opener Tuesday night 2-0 to Methodist University at Duggins Stadium. 

Meredith (1-4-0, 0-1 USA South) battled hard in the first half earning two shots both from senior forward Morgan Thomas. Methodist (6-2-1, 2-0 USA South) tallied seven shots on goal as the teams headed to the break all tied.

The Monarchs scored two second half goals to pull away from the Avenging Angels. First in the 57th minute with a second to shut the door in the 85th. Freshman Ellie Heney and sophomore Meredith Warrick netted a shot each in the second half. 

Meredith is set to be back at home this Saturday for its USA South home opener against Brevard at 4 p.m.
