RALEIGH, N.C. - The Avenging Angel tennis program hosted Virginia Wesleyan Thursday afternoon and fell 8-1.
SeniorÂ
Savannah Duduk picked up the lone point for the Angels taking the No. 5 singles in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. The Marlins finished the other singles matches in straight sets as well.
Sophomore
Anna Bittler fought in tough matches all day as she started the day pairing with juniorÂ
Ryann Jennings in No. 3 doubles falling 6-8. Bittler also played in the closest singles match of the day where she fell 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 6 singles slot.
"The girls fought hard today," head coach
Eric Douglass said. We were down a couple of players and those that played really stepped up their level of play. Virginia Wesleyan is a very good team and at the top of their conference. We were just a little overmatched today. But I'm proud of how the everyone competed."
The Angels wrapped up the short fall season and open up the spring season when they host Randolph College on Feb. 10th at 1 p.m. Meredith has a total of eight home matches this spring season and also have a trip planned to Hilton Head, S.C. for Spring Break Tennis Fest on March 11th through the 15th. Â
