RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith tennis program had won back-to-back matches before falling 9-0 to Pfeiffer University Wednesday afternoon at the Meredith Tennis Courts.
The Falcons started the day with a sweep in doubles action. The tightest match came in the No. 3 slot as freshman Lexie House and sophomore Anna Bittler lost 8-5.
The Avenging Angels lost four of the six singles matches in straight sets but fought hard. Sophomore Sophie Phillips hung tough in the No. 2 singles slot taking the first set 6-1 before falling 6-1 and 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
Fellow sophomore Javi Brito also forced a tiebreaker after she won the first set 7-5. Brito dropped the second set 7-5 and fell 10-7 in the tiebreaker.
Meredith is back in action this Saturday, the 15th when they travel to Mary Baldwin for a 2 p.m. start.
