Field Hockey Falls to Sweet Briar 2-0, Season Series Tied at 1-1

Sweet Briar, Va. – The Avenging Angels crossed the state line on Sunday, October 6th, to face the Vixens of Sweet Briar College. This second meeting of the season came with Meredith leading the series 1-0, marking their first-ever win in matchup history. Sweet Briar was determined to even the score, capitalizing on two of their eleven corners to secure a 2-0 victory.

How it Happened:
- The Angels battled back and forth with the Vixens in the opening period, firing multiple shots in both circles. With just 12 seconds left on the clock, Sweet Briar broke through Meredith's defense to earn a corner. The Vixens seized the opportunity and scored, closing the period with a 1-0 lead.

- The second period saw fierce competition from both teams. Meredith managed three shots while the Vixens had two. However, none of the shots found the back of the cage, and the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

- Meredith maintained offensive pressure in the third period, registering three shots on goal. However, the Vixens stepped up their attack with five shots on goal and three corners. The period ended with the Vixens still leading 1-0.

- The Angels fought hard throughout the final period, putting four shots on the Vixens' cage but were unable to score. With just 2:29 left in the game, Sweet Briar earned another corner and scored, sealing a 2-0 victory over Meredith.

The Angels are now 1-4 all-time against the Vixens. Today's match marked the first time the Angels were shut out by Sweet Briar since 2021. Brielle Bellamy recorded her third defensive save of the season.
