Tennis earns road win over Johnson & Wales

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Meredith Tennis Program earned 7-2 non-conference road victory over Johnson & Wales Wednesday afternoon.

The Angels started the day by taking two of the three doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles slot, fifth-year Hannah Higgins and junior Claire Southern cruised to an 8-2 win while the Ellie duo of freshman Ellie Phillips and Ellie Osborne rolled to an 8-1 victory in No. 2 doubles action.

They went on to win five of the six singles matches. Southern, Osborne, and Higgins all picked up wins in straight sets along with sophomore Anna Bittler. Freshman Zoe Jones picked up her first career win as an Avenging Angel in close fashion. Jones dropped the first set 7-5 before climbing back to win 6-3, 10-7.

"Today was a total team effort," Head Coach Eric Douglass said. "Everyone on the team got a win in either singles or doubles. This is the kind of win that we can build on heading into conference play next week. Excited for what's ahead."

Meredith is back in action when they open USA South play at Methodist University on March 27th, at 3 p.m.
