Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. – The Meredith College Avenging Angels battled to a 1-1 draw against the Brevard College Tornados in their USA South Conference opener on Saturday. Despite strong play from both sides, neither team could secure a winning goal in the second half, continuing a pattern of tightly contested matches between the two programs.
Meredith College (4-1-3, 0-0-1 USA South) struck first, with freshman Kate Conoley delivering a goal directly off a corner kick in the 11th minute. The Tornados (4-0-2, 0-0-1 USA South) answered back in the 22nd minute when Catie Barton netted her second collegiate goal.
This draw marks the fourth consecutive tie between the two teams. Their last three matchups in 2022 and 2023 ended in scoreless draws during the regular season, with Brevard advancing on penalties in the postseason after 110 minutes of deadlocked play.
Brevard led the shot count 18-9, including a 12-5 margin in the first half, but Meredith held an edge in corner kicks, taking five to Brevard's three.
The Avenging Angels will look to build on this performance when they face non-conference opponent Ferrum College at home on Tuesday, 9/24, with kickoff set for 5 p.m.
