AVENGING ANGELS' LATE PUSH FALLS SHORT IN 3-2 BATTLE AGAINST SVU

Avenging Angels’ Late Push Falls Short in 3-2 Battle Against SVU

Box Score

Buena Vista, Va. – The Meredith College Avenging Angels faced a tough battle against Southern Virginia University on Saturday, falling 3-2 in a hard-fought match.

Southern Virginia opened the scoring with two quick goals at the 27th and 30th minutes. Meredith responded just minutes later when freshman Kathryn Angrave netted a goal at the 31:19 mark, assisted by Lucy Miller, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Before the half, Southern Virginia was awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute, which they successfully converted to extend their lead to 3-1. The teams went into halftime with Southern Virginia holding a two-goal advantage.

In the second half, the Avenging Angels' defense stepped up, shutting out Southern Virginia, while Goalkeeper Khaliah Jones anchored the defense with three crucial saves.

Meredith continued to push for a comeback, and Lucy Miller scored the team's second goal in the 85th minute, bringing the score to 3-2. Despite a strong late effort, the Avenging Angels were unable to find the equalizer before time expired.

While the result didn't go their way, Meredith's resilience, particularly in the second half, showed their determination as they continue to grow this season.

The Avenging Angels will be back in action on the road at NC Wesleyan on Wednesday, October 2, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.
