RALEIGH, N.C. — Meredith College Athletics proudly secured a top-three finish in the USA South Athletic Conference's 21st annual Cans Across the Conference community service initiative, powered by the leadership and dedication of the College's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
From the start of fall classes through November 20, SAAC groups across the USA South collected canned goods and non-perishable items to support local food pantries and nonprofit organizations. This year marked one of the strongest showings in the competition's history, with every conference institution participating for the first time since 2021.
Meredith College contributed 5,051 items, earning third place in the conference-wide challenge and making a significant impact on food insecurity in the Raleigh area. This total marks the second-highest collection amount in Meredith's history, and the second year that the Avenging Angels have surpassed the 5,000-item milestone.
. All items collected by Meredith student-athletes were donated to the Salvation Army of Raleigh and The Daisy Trade, Meredith's on-campus food pantry supporting students in need.
Methodist University claimed the 2025 championship with a remarkable 20,020 items, their second win in the 21-year history of the event. Brevard College placed second with 17,694 items, marking the fifth-highest single-year total ever recorded.
Across the league, USA South institutions combined to donate 59,904 items—more than double last year's total and the third-largest output in competition history. The conference has now contributed 719,503 items to local organizations since the initiative began in 2004.
Notably, seven institutions—Brevard, Methodist, N.C. Wesleyan, Pfeiffer, Salem, Southern Virginia, and William Peace—improved their totals from last year, with several setting new single-year records.
Meredith College is honored to stand among the conference's top contributors and remains committed to service, leadership, and community engagement. The Avenging Angels look forward to continuing this tradition of generosity and impact in the years ahead.
