Avenging Angels Sweep Methodist in Road Doubleheader

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. | The Meredith College softball team traveled to Methodist University on Monday (4/1) for a conference doubleheader and came away with two hard-fought victories. The Avenging Angels edged out a 3-2 win in Game 1 before powering to a 9-3 victory in Game 2, fueled by dominant pitching and a strong offensive showing.

Quoting Head Coach Kim Scavone:
"We had two outstanding performances in the circle today. Lillie Davis had nine strikeouts in Game 1, and Kaylee Manning allowed just two hits through seven innings. Our offense was really strong today as well, with 26 hits as a team. I'm very proud of how the team responded after Sunday and got the job done in a conference match-up."

Game One: Meredith 3 – Methodist 2
The Avenging Angels capitalized on a big third inning to take control in a tight 3-2 win over Methodist.

Both teams struck in the third, but Meredith broke through with a three-run frame, highlighted by RBIs from Sarah Manis and Kaydon Roberson. Methodist answered with a run in the seventh, but Lillie Davis (W, 9-5) shut the door with a complete-game performance, striking out nine while allowing just five hits.

Inside the Numbers: Game Two: Meredith 9 – Methodist 3

The Angels wasted no time, striking first in the opening inning before breaking the game open with four runs in the third. Avery Puryear had a monster game, going a perfect 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a triple, while Sarah Manis, Savannah Talley, and Mariah Bell each chipped in RBIs.

In the circle, K. Manning (W, 4-6) delivered a stellar performance, allowing just two hits and one earned run over seven innings while striking out six.
