RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College has announced the elevation of longtime Head Softball Coach
Kim Scavone to Director of Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator.
In her expanded role, Scavone will oversee the department's NCAA Compliance efforts and serve as a critical resource for student athletes and coaches while maintaining her position as Head Softball Coach.
"Kim represents exactly the type of leadership we want to continue building within Meredith Athletics," Athletic Director
Fiona Barkley said. "Her knowledge of NCAA Division III athletics, her commitment to our student-athletes, and her ability to lead with integrity make her an outstanding fit for this role. As we continue working to raise the standard across our department, having someone with Kim's experience and passion helping guide our student-athlete experience is incredibly valuable."
Scavone joined Meredith College in 2010 and has built the Avenging Angels softball program into one of the most respected programs in the region. During her tenure, she has guided Meredith to conference success, postseason appearances, and numerous individual honors. In 2017, Scavone led the Avenging Angels to a program-best 28 victories, a USA South East Division Championship, and earned her second USA South Coach of the Year honor.
The 2026 season added another milestone to Scavone's career as Meredith opened conference play with a program-record 6-0 start. Pitcher Lillie Davis earned USA South Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-Region honors, while five Avenging Angels earned All-Conference recognition.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities Meredith College has given me over the past 16 years and for the unwavering support of our campus community throughout my career," Scavone said. "As I begin these new roles, I am excited to work alongside student-athletes and coaches across all of our teams and help support the outstanding work Fiona Barkley is doing to lead our department into the future. Meredith Athletics has an incredible opportunity to make an even greater impact on enrollment, retention, and the overall student experience, and I am honored to be part of that vision. I look forward to continuing to serve our student athletes in new ways while helping build an even stronger future for Meredith Athletics."
A former standout student-athlete at Boston College, Scavone brings extensive experience as both a coach and administrator. She was inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2014 after a decorated playing career that included Big East Rookie of the Year honors, Big East Pitcher of the Year recognition, First Team All-Big East selections, and First Team Regional All-American honors. Earlier this year, she earned her fifth Hall of Fame induction overall, being named to the New York Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.
Prior to arriving at Meredith, Scavone served as an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Fordham University, helping the Rams capture an Atlantic 10 regular season championship and establish multiple program records. She also competed and coached professionally in the Italian Federation Softball League.
Scavone earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Boston College.
