RALEIGH, N.C. – Meredith College softball head coach Kim Scavone continues to add to one of the most accomplished resumes in program and conference history following a landmark 2026 season.
On Thursday evening, Scavone, formerly known as Kim Ryan during her standout playing career in New York, was officially inducted into New York's Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame, marking the fifth Hall of Fame honor of her decorated softball career.
The recognition adds to an already distinguished list of honors that includes induction into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame, the Boston College Varsity Club Hall of Fame, the Bay Shore High School Softball Hall of Fame inaugural class, and induction as a member of the 1998 Bay Shore High School softball team.
While Scavone's playing career established her as one of New York's most respected softball figures, her coaching accomplishments at Meredith College have continued to elevate the Avenging Angels softball program into one of the premier programs in the USA South Athletic Conference.
During the 2026 season, Scavone recorded her 300th career victory at Meredith on April 18 with a win over Southern Virginia University. She closed the year with 305 career wins, officially becoming the winningest head coach in Meredith College USA South era history.
Since taking over the program, Scavone has guided Meredith softball through one of the most successful stretches in school history, highlighted by a USA South Regular Season Championship, three USA South Coach of the Year honors, multiple nationally recognized wins, and a growing list of all-conference and all-region student-athletes.
A proven recruiter, Scavone has consistently built rosters filled with both talent and depth throughout her 16 seasons leading the Avenging Angels. Her ability to identify and develop high-level student-athletes has helped Meredith compete successfully against some of the top programs in NCAA Division III softball while continuing to elevate the program's regional and national reputation.
Among the standout accomplishments during her tenure:
- Lillie Davis earned NFCA All-Region honors in both 2025 and 2026, in addition to USA South Pitcher of the Year and Rookie Pitcher of the Year accolades during her career. Davis was also named Meredith College's 2026 Avenging Angel of the Year.
- Ashbee Standridge earned NFCA All-Region honors in 2026.
- Alyssa Drake earned First Team NFCA All-Region honors in 2022.
- Amanda White was named USA South Player of the Year and earned All-Region recognition while becoming one of the most versatile players in program history with All-Conference honors at three different positions across her career.
- Amanda Beirne ranked among the national leaders in strikeouts during her senior season.
- Sara Manis earned multiple All-Conference selections throughout her career.
- Sarah Watson, Julia Allsbrook, and Maddie Hamilton each earned Meredith College's prestigious Dean Burris Award.
Under Scavone's leadership, Meredith has also secured signature victories over nationally respected programs including Christopher Newport University, Virginia Wesleyan University, Randolph-Macon College, Pfeiffer University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Piedmont University — several of which either entered or finished their seasons nationally ranked, advanced to NCAA Regional competition, or went on to compete in the NCAA Division III Women's College World Series.
The 2026 season further reinforced the upward trajectory of Meredith softball as the Avenging Angels continued to compete successfully against regional and national competition while producing championship-caliber performances both on the field and in the classroom.
Scavone's latest Hall of Fame recognition serves as another reminder of the impact she has made on the sport — first as an elite player and now as one of the winningest and most respected coaches in Meredith College athletics history.
