Newport News, Va. - The Meredith basketball team traveled to take on #3 nationally-ranked Christopher Newport on Sunday.  The Captains defeated the Avenging Angels 84-68.

Christopher Newport's Chelsie Schweers took the first shot and hit a three pointer to give the Captains the lead and they never looked back.  CNU took the 53-31 halftime lead.  Meredith (2-4, 0-3 USA South) showed perseverance as the Avenging Angels outscored CNU (6-0, 3-0) 37-31 in the second half.

Christopher Newport held the advantage on the boards 49-24, but Meredith held an advantage in field goal percentage 47% to 42%.

Meredith was led by Megan Rahn with 17 points and five rebounds.  Ashley Hudson added 12 points and Alejandra Patrick had 11. Schweers had 33 points and six rebounds to lead the Captains.

Meredith next hosts LaGrange in a rare weekday daytime home game on Thursday at 2 p.m.
