Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith softball team opened home
conference play hosting N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday. The teams split
the series with Meredith winning game one and N.C. Wesleyan game
two.
Game 1: Meredith 4, N.C.
Wesleyan 3 - Meredith (11-9, 1-3 USA South) got on the board
first. Kirstin Morris led off with a double and was moved to third
on a sacrifice bunt by Brittney Tucker. Olivia Izze then hit a
sacrifice fly to center field to score Morris.
Catcher Andrea Jarman added another run on a solo blast to
left-center field in the bottom of the second inning.
The Avenging Angels weren't done scoring with two more in the
third inning. Ashley Braswell had a one out double and was followed
by singles from Arielle Stout and Sara Cranford to load the bases.
Two runs scored on a error by N.C. Wesleyan's left fielder on a pop
fly by Kayla Walker.
N.C. Wesleyan (10-7,3-3) added two in the fourth and one in the
fifth, but it wasn't enough. Amanda Beirne (4-3) gained her fourth
win and Lauriel Lebeau gained her first save on the year.
Game 2 : N.C. Wesleyan
2, Meredith 0 - The game stayed scoreless until the top of
the third when N.C. Wesleyan scored two on an error and a walk.
Those two runs would be enough to give N.C. Wesleyan the 2-0
victory.
