Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith softball team completed their
regular season with a home sweep of the Averett Cougars. Meredith
took game one 8-0 and game two 7-3.
Game 1: Meredith 8,
Averett 0 - 5 innings: Meredith (21-15, 10-8 USA South)
finished off the Courgars in 58 minutes in the first game, scoring
eight runs in the last three innings. The scoring was capped by Gus
Crist's 2-run home run to center field.
Game 2: Meredith 7,
Averett 3: Meredith took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on
RBI-singles from Brittany Tucker and Arielle Stout.
The Cougars struck back gaining three runs in the fifth to take a
3-2 lead. The Avenging Angels finished off Averett (6-23, 4-14)
with five runs in the sixth including an RBI-single from Kayla
Walker who went three for three in the game. Kristin Morris also
had a 2 RBI-single to left field.
Crist was the original starter and earned the victory returning to
the game to pitch after the lead was lost.
Meredith next waits to see where they will be seeded in the USA
South Tournament which starts on Friday in Burlington, N.C.
