Meredith Completes Season In USA South Tournament

Burlington, N.C. - The Meredith softball team completed their run in the USA South tournament. The Avenging Angels were moved out of the winner's bracket by Christopher Newport 6-1 and completed their run against Shenandoah 2-0.

Chris. Newport 6, Meredith 1: The number one seed Christopher Newport Captains took down the number five Meredith Avenging Angels in the winner's bracket 6-1.

The Captains got on the board first in the top of the second. Christopher Newport had a two out walks by Jennifer Falin and Taylor Morgan. Renee Ashworth hit an RBI-single to score Falin.

Christopher Newport added two more in the third as Mary Kennedy, Chelsea Mitchell and Amanda Potter scored. Kristin Nickloy had a sacrifice fly that scored .

Meredith strung together back to back doubles as Brittany Tucker's score Hill to give Meredith a run. CNU added insurance runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh to seal the win.

Shenandoah 2, Meredith 0: The Shenandoah Hornets and Meredith Avenging Angels met in an elimination game in the USA South softball tournament. Shenandoah took the victory 2-0.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Hornets put on one on the board. Renoula Jones was hit by a pitch and stole second with one out. Ashley Plaughter then hit a single through Meredith's third baseman to score Jones.

Shenandoah added another run in the bottom of the fourth as the Hornets scored with two outs. Samantha Robson moved on base with a walk and stole second. Then Cat Pruitt singled to right center to score Robson.

Meredith had bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh and could not get a run in. The Avenging Angels out hit Shenandoah 8-3.

Brooke Over gained the win for Shenandoah striking out five in seven innings.

Meredith finishes their season while Shenandoah continues play against the winner of Methodist and Ferrum.
