Raleigh, N.C. – The Meredith softball team hosted
nationally ranked #4 Christopher Newport in a double header on
Saturday. The Angels played the Captains tough but CNU swept
Meredith taking game one 11-1 and game two 6-2.
Game 1: Chris. Newport
11, Meredith 1: The Avenging Angels hung with the Captains
the first two innings staying deadlocked in a 0-0 tie. Christopher
Newport broke things open in the third scoring eight over the next
four innings. Meredith provided a run in the bottom of the sixth to
avoid being run-ruled. Kirstin Morris scored on an single by
Brittney Tucker.
Game 2: Chris. Newport
6, Meredith 2: Meredith came out of the game quickly and
took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Tucker scored on an
RBI-double from Gus Crist. Crist then scored on an RBI-single to
left field from Rebecca Leigh.
The game remained tied until the top of the third when CNU pushed
across one run. The Captains would add another in the fifth to tie
it at 2-all.
Christopher Newport would add two runs each in the sixth and
seventh to secure the win.
Meredith next travels to Greensboro on Tuesday in an important USA
South matchup. The first game of the double header begins at 2
p.m.
