Box Score Raleigh, N.C. – The two cross town rivals faced off in basketball on Sunday as Peace traveled to Meredith. The game did not disappoint in excitement as the game was an overtime thriller. The Pacers pulled out the victory 66-64.
The game was tied early at 5-all and saw Peace lead the rest of the first half and take the 33-23 half time advantage.
The second half saw the Avenging Angels chip at the Pacers biggest lead of 13 points with 18 minutes left. Meredith took the 52-21 advantage on a layup by Danielle Lee with 4:20 remaining. Meredith would push the lead to four with 2:30 left to go until Peace went on a run to tie it at 57-all and take the 58-57 advantage at the 1:10 mark with free throws by Peace's Angel Fuller. Kaela Bellafeuil answered the call hitting a jumper with 40 seconds left to give Meredith the one point lead. Fuller would answer again, hitting a jumper to give the Pacers the 60-59 advantage with 26 ticks left. The Avenging Angels then took the ball down one last time in regulation with Kristin Stewart getting fouled by Peace's Megan Sherrill with one second remaining. Stewart hit the first of two free throws to tie the game at 60-all to send it to overtime.
In the overtime period, Meredith (3-7, 0-5 USA South) took the early advantage as Ashley Hudson hit a three pointer to give Meredith the 63-60 advantage. Peace (6-6, 2-4) then hit two free throws to cut it to one. Bellafeuil then hit one of two free throws to put the game back to a Meredith two-point advantage. Katelyn Bradley from Peace then hit a jumper to provide the fourth tie in the game with 1:45 remaining in OT. A jumper by Peace's Megan Sherrill with 31 seconds ended up as the game winner, as the end was last second attempts from the Angels to fall short 66-64.
Meredith was led by Megan Rahn's double-double of 16 points and 20 rebounds. Hudson threw in 12 points to go with her six rebounds. Bellefeuil added 10 points and six rebounds. Lee had nine points and six rebounds. Kristin Stewart and Rah'nika Jones both had six points.
Meredith next travels to N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
