Box Score Rocky Mount, N.C. – The Meredith basketball team continued their USA South schedule on the road as they traveled to take on N.C. Wesleyan. The Avenging Angels pulled out the victory, taking down the Battling Bishops 65-62.
Meredith (4-7, 1-5 USA South) held a 6-0 lead to start the game, but then fell down by as many as 12 in the first half to give the Bishops (2-11, 1-7) a 40-31 lead at halftime.
The Avenging Angels would chip away at the nine point halftime lead and take the lead with 13 minutes remaining on a layup by Rah'nika Jones. The game would continue to battle back and forth until Megan Rahn's free throws with 30 seconds left would give Meredith the lead for good. Kaela Bellefeuil made two free throws down the stretch to seal the game for Meredith.
The Avenging Angels outscored N.C. Wesleyan 34-22 in the second half and outrebounded the Bishops 51-46.
Meredith was led by two double-doubles as Rahn had 22 points and 10 rebounds and Kristin Stewart had 10 points and 10 rebounds. Danielle Lee added 15 points.
Meredith next hosts Mary Baldwin on Saturday at 2 p.m. in USA South action.
