Box Score Danville, Va. - The Meredith basketball team traveled to face the Averett Cougars on Saturday. The Cougars pulled out the 62-50 victory over the Avenging Angels.
Meredith (4-11, 1-9 USA South) held the early one point advantage of 18-17 with 12 minutes remaining in the first half before Averett took the lead for good. Averett (18-8, 6-6) held the 33-28 halftime advantage. Averett held the difference on the boards, pulling down 52 compared to Meredith's 29. Both teams shot about the same from the field, but Averett had 23 extra shots to make the difference.
The Avenging Angels were led by Megan Rahn with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Bryana Holmes and Ashley Hudson both added eight points. The Cougars were led by Mette Scheiman's 23 points and Ashley Washington's 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Meredith returns to action at home on Sunday as the Avenging Angels host #11 Christopher Newport at 2 p.m.
