Basketball Loses Gritty Contest with CNU, 81-58

Raleigh, N.C. – The Avenging Angel basketball team welcomed #11 Christopher Newport on Sunday.  The Captains defeated Meredith 81-58.

Meredith (4-12, 1-10 USA South )came out of the gate fast and took the early advantage 8-4 advantage in the first five minutes. Christopher Newport (18-2, 12-1 USA South) would then  go on a streak but never quite shake the Angels.  CNU held the 39-24 halftime advantage. 

Meredith would continue to play tough and it took CNU's Chelsie Schweers' career-high 45 points to topple the Avenging Angels.  Her 45 points is second all time in CNU history.

Meredith was led by Megan Rahn with 19 points.  Ashley Hudson poured in 17 of her own while Bryana Holmes contributed 10 points.  Rah'nika Jones led Meredith in rebounds with seven.

Meredith next returns to action on Wednesday as they host USA South rival and #17-ranked Greensboro College.  Game time is 7 p.m.
