Box Score Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith basketball team gained their first conference win on the year, downing the Battling Bishops 93-82. The game was a story of two halves as N.C. Wesleyan had a 14 point first half lead and Meredith a 17 point lead.
The lead traded hands several times to start the first half in the first nine minutes. A three-pointer by Genevieve Gholizadeh with 11:42 remaining gave Meredith (2-2, 1-1 USA South) their last lead of the half at 19-18. N.C. Wesleyan (3-3, 1-1) then caught fire and pushed their lead to their highest of the game (14) with five minutes left the in the half. The Avenging Angels went on a run to close the first half and cut the lead to five at 47-52, on a jumper by Bryana Holmes. The Bishops held the 52-47 half time lead.
The second half saw the trading of baskets up until the eleven minute mark when the Avenging Angels got it back even at 62-all. A steal by Holmes and a lay up by Keyanka Bailey would put give Meredith a 64-62 lead that they would never lose. Meredith then went on a 17-2 run that pushed the lead to 83-66 with seven minutes to go. The Avenging Angels then cruised to the 93-82 win.
Meredith was paced by Megan Rahn's 36 points and eight rebounds. Bailey put in 15 points to go with six rebounds. Allyson Stephenson had 13 points and seven rebounds. The Bishops were led by Tiffany Bell's 24 points.
Meredith returns to action next Saturday as they host out of conference Guilford College at 2 p.m.
