Box Score Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith basketball team traveled to their cross town rival on Tuesday night losing to Peace 71-57. With the loss, Meredith will be on the outside of the USA South tournament field.
Meredith (5-17, 2-15 USA South) held the early four point lead at 6-2 before Peace (9-14, 4-12) took the a large 29-12 advantage with four minutes remaining in the first half. Meredith then scored the last 13 points in the half including a three pointer from Bryana Holmes with ten seconds remaining to finish with a four point halftime deficit at 29-25. Meredith dominated Peace in the first half on the boards, out rebounding the Pacers 28-16.
In the second half, Meredith tied things up at 31-all on two free throws from Kristin Stewart. That set up Megan Rahn's jump shot at the 16:28 remaining mark to give Meredith the 33-31 lead. The game would continue to see multiple lead changes and the game tied for the last time at 53-all with a three pointer from Rahn with five minutes remaining left. Peace would then take the lead and not give it back, pushing to the 14 point victory.
Meredith continued to hold the advantage on the boards for the game, 55-35. Peace outshot the Avenging Angels 40% to 29%.
Meredith was led by a double-double from Stewart of 20 points and 16 rebounds. Rahn led all game scorers with 22 points. Mia Sloan led the Peace scorers with 14 points.
Meredith next finishes the regular season at home as the Avenging Angels host N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday at 2 p.m.
