Box Score 2 Lynchburg, Va. – The Meredith softball team played their first road double header traveling to Lynchburg College. The Hornets took both games from the Avenging Angels for the sweep.
Game 1: Lynchburg 12, Meredith 3 – 6 innings: Meredith (1-5) got on the board first in the top on the first as Arielle Stout hit a 2 RBI single to center field that scored Leah Friedman and Emily Cooke to take the 2-0 advantage. Lynchburg (2-0) then would tie it up in the bottom side of the inning and add two more in the bottom of the second to take the 4-2 advantage. Stout added a home run for Meredith in the top of the third to cut the Lynchburg lead to 4-3. The game stayed that way until the Hornets exploded for eight in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the contest a 12-3 winner in six innings. A grand slam off the bat of Lynchburg's junior shortstop Taylor Walker fueled the sixth-inning outburst.
Game 2: Lynchburg 5, Meredith 1: Lynchburg took the early 4-0 lead scoring two in the second, one in the third and one in the fourth. Meredith would get on the board in the top of the fifth as Cooke singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Friedman. Ashley Green then singled to center field to score Cooke. The Hornets would then score one in the bottom of the fifth to take the 5-1 win.
Meredith returns to the field at home on Sunday as the Avenging Angels host Randolph College in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
