Softball Gains Road Split at N.C. Wesleyan

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Rocky Mount, Va. - The Meredith softball team headed to N.C. Wesleyan for their first conference road game of the year. The double header was split with the Avenging Angels (7-13, 2-2 USA South) taking the first game 2-0 and the Battling Bishops (6-14, 3-3) taking game two 10-2.

Game 1:  Meredith 2, N.C. Wesleyan 0:  The Avenging Angels put one quick run up in both the first and second innings to take the early 2-0 lead.  In the first, Emily Cooke led the game off with a double and stole third base.  Arielle Stout came up with two outs and hit a double to knock in Cooke.  In the second inning, Leigh Friedman reached on an error and scored on another to get a run.  Those two runs would be all Meredith would need as Stout struck out 16 batters in a one-hit complete game.

Game 2:  N.C. Wesleyan 10, Meredith 2:  The Bishops caught fire in the bottom of the first inning, pushing across seven runs on five hits.  Meredith was able to push across one in the second and one in the sixth.  The run in the sixth scored on an RBI-single from Whitney Williams. N.C. Wesleyan added one more in the fifth and two in the sixth to seal the game.

Meredith next hosts Mary Baldwin in a double header on Saturday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
