Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith softball team hosted Peace on Sunday in a StriKeOut Cancer game.  The Avenging Angels (10-14, 5-3 USA South) and Pacers (10-20, 2-6) split the series with Meredith taking game one 8-2 and Peace game two 7-0.  The game raised $1,134.97 during the event.

Game one: Meredith 8, Peace 2 - The Avenging Angels started the game on the offensive and stayed that way.  The Angels scored the first run in the bottom of the first on errors by the Peace fielders as Emily Cooke came into score.  The bottom of the third saw three great at bats with two outs for Meredith.   Ashley Green homered to center field.  Kristin Piner then doubled to right field and was hit in when Arielle Stout slammed a two-run home run to center.  Meredith added one more in the fourth to take the 5-0 lead.

Peace answered in the top of the fifth, putting two runs across to close the gap to 5-2.  Meredith would put the game away in the bottom of the inning as Rebecca Leigh doubled to right field to score Stout.  Cooke them singled to shortstop to score Leigh and Carrie Webster.  Cooke finished with three RBIs. 

Stout had the complete game one-hitter, allowing two runs with seven walks and 16 strike outs.

Game two: Peace 7, Meredith 0 - The Meredith offense couldn't get things going against Peace in the nightcap.  Peace had three runs in the first inning, one in the second and third and added two more in the sixth to seal the game.  Meredith could only muster four hits and gave up four errors in the loss.

Meredith next plays at Methodist on Wednesday in a doubleheader under the lights starting at 5 p.m.
