Box Score Raleigh, N.C. - The Meredith basketball team faced crosstown rival and USA South foe Peace College on Wednesday night. The Pacers had a run in the first half that put them up for good and gave them their seventh victory in a row over the Avenging Angels. Peace defeated Meredith 72-61 in a jam packed Hermann Center.
The game started slow and was tied at 8-all to start the game. Meredith (4-10, 2-6 USA South) then hit back-to-back three pointers by Megan Rahn and Kristen Alford to give the Avenging Angels a 14-8 lead. Peace (2-13, 1-7) then went on a key 22-4 run in the middle of the half to give the Pacers the 30-18 advantage and the lead for good. Peace kept their halftime lead at 12 as Crystal Alston hit a three to finish the scoring. The Pacers held the 38-26 lead.
The second half saw Meredith chip away at the lead and get it down to four at 52-56 but could not get any closer. Peace made their free throws down the stretch and finished with an 11-point win at 72-61. Meredith was led by Rahn's double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Bryana Holmes made 3 three-pointers to finished with 13 points. Peace was led by Alston's 19 points.
Meredith returns to action on Saturday as they host Methodist University on Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m.
