Box Score Ferrum, Va. - The Meredith basketball team hit the road to start the schedule in the new year as they traveled to USA South foe Ferrum on Wednesday night. The Panthers defeated the Avenging Angels 118-73.
The game see-sawed back and for the first five minutes as a basket by Meredith's Megan Rahn tied the game at 8-all. Ferrum (8-1, 3-0 USA South) then went on a run and pushed the lead to 33 and led 63-30 at halftime. The Panthers continued to pour on the offense, outscoring Meredith 55-43 in the second half. Ferrum out shot Meredith 54% to 29% and were hot from three point range as they drained eight compared to three for the Avenging Angels.
The Avenging Angels (3-6, 1-2) were led by Rahn with 36 points and nine rebounds. Rebekah Cox pulled down 10 rebounds and scored six while Keyanka Bailey had eight rebounds and six points. Tyler Gresham added seven points. Ferrum was led by Kayla Goins with 18 points and eight assists.
Meredith returns to action on Saturday as they head to Newport News, Va. to face the Captains of Christopher Newport University. The tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
