Rahn's Career Highs Not Enough As Squirrels Get By Basketball, 89-87

Box Score

Staunton, Va. - The Meredith basketball team headed to Mary Baldwin as they started a USA South road trip.  Meredith's Megan Rahn had a double-double and career highs of 38 points and 21 rebounds, but it was not enough as the Fighting Squirrels defeated the Avenging Angels 89-87.

Meredith (5-17, 3-12 USA South) overcame a 13 point deficit with six minutes remaining to take a two point lead and hold the 37-35 halftime advantage.  The Avenging Angels hit four straight three-pointers at the end of the half as Bryana Holmes hit three and Rahn hit one.

A free throw by Meredith's Keyanka Bailey with 16:37 remaining allowed the Avenging Angels to push their lead to their biggest of the day at eight at 47-39.  Meredith would continue to hold the lead until Mary Baldwin (7-14, 5-11) tied it at 55-all at the 11 minute mark and then take the lead for good.  The Fighting Squirrels would make enough free throws down the stretch to take the 89-87 victory and sweep Meredith on the season.

Rahn's 38 points and 21 rebounds led Meredith while Holmes put up her own 17 points and eight rebounds.  Bailey added nine points.  Mary Baldwin was led by two scorers, Meagan Barron and Sabrina Desper, at 26 points each

Meredith returns to action on Sunday as they head to Shenandoah to complete their road trip.
