Box Score Raleigh, N.C. - The basketball team completed a home stand on Sunday as Greensboro College came to Weatherspoon Gymnasium. The Pride defeated the Avenging Angels 81-68 in a hard fought game.
Meredith (5-15, 3-11 USA South) opened the game with a 6-2 lead on a three pointer by Kristen Alford. The Avenging Angels quelled a comeback by the Pride as Megan Rahn sunk a three pointer and Meredith took the 15-11 lead. Greensboro (17-3, 12-2) then went on a 14-0 run to take the lead and push the Pride's advantage to 10 at 25-15 with nine minutes remaining in the half. The Pride held the 37-30 halftime lead.
The Avenging Angels started the second half off on a fast break from Keyanka Bailey to Briana Holmes to cut the Greensboro lead to seven at 37-32. Greensboro would then push their lead to 20 points until Meredith put forth several comeback runs. The Avenging Angels got the deficit down to seven but it was not enough as Greensboro won by 13. The Pride out rebounded Meredith 56-41 and out shot the Angels 45% versus 32%.
Meredith was led by Rahn's double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Holmes added 13 points and eight rebounds. Alford put in 11 more for the Angels. Greensboro was led by Bianca Richburg with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
The Avenging Angels next travel for a non-conference match up with Hollins on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
