Box Score 2 STAUNTON, Va. - Senior pitcher Amanda Beirne pitched a no-hitter in game one at Mary Baldwin (2-30, 1-17 USA South) en route to a 7-0 Meredith (12-9, 10-5 USA South) win, and the Avenging Angels capped off the conference date with a 4-1 victory in game two.
Beirne pitched a pair of complete games allowing just three hits in game two with one earned run and 18 strikeouts on the day.
Meredith opened the league doubleheader 1-0 on a RBI-single from Lorri Cole. She drove in Amanda White, who advanced on a double.
Cole singled again in the the third inning and scored on a hit from Mindi Stallings. Stallings picked up an extra RBI thanks to an MBC miscue earlier in the set, and Sara Cranford walked in a run to extend the Meredith lead to four.
Cranford drove in Stallings in the top of the fifth and Beirne scored the second of two RBI in the fifth to cap off the scoring for the win.
Meredith kept the bats moving in game two and held a two-run advantage after the first inning.
White doubled to left field in the third to send Leah Friedman home for a 3-0 lead over Mary Baldwin.
In the bottom of the next series, the Fighting Squirrels led off with a single before Beirne struck out the second and third at-bats. With two outs MBC's Jonquil Brown reached home on a single to right from Lindsey Shifflet to put the hosts on the board.
Friedman scored her third run of the game on a hit from Courtney Saunders to secure the win for Meredith.
White went six-for-nine on the day with a trio of doubles and one RBI. Friedman added four hits in the sweep.
The Avenging Angels host Greensboro College Thursday with the first of two games slated to begin at 2 p.m.
