Box Score FERRUM, Va. - The Meredith Avenging Angels lost 95-64 in Saturday's USA South action versus #17 Ferrum College. McKenzi Edwards led Meredith with 16 points and five assists.
The Avenging Angels kept their opponent close during the first 20 minutes of play this afternoon. Rah'nika Jones pulled her team to within two points on a putback in the paint with 1:11 left in the half.
Meredith sent the Panthers to the free throw line on three occasions late in the period, and Ferrum carried a five-point advantage into the break.
The Panthers scored the first six points after the intermission before the teams settled in for a back-and-forth battle for the next seven minutes.
But the hosts put the game in cruise control during the next 5:41 outscoring the Avenging Angels 23-1 on their way to a conference win.
Jones and Kim Hinton contributed double-digit scoring for Meredith with 15 and 10 points, respectively, with Jones adding six rebounds and three steals.
Ferrum's Shea Smith led all with 21 points, including a perfect 10-of-10 from the stripe.
The Avenging Angels head North to face Mary Baldwin Sunday afternoon in a 2 p.m. tip-off. Meredith completes the regular season next week with a four game home series beginning with the rescheduled Play 4Kay game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. versus N.C. Wesleyan.
