Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - In tonight's Play 4Kay breast cancer awareness game, Meredith lost a 76-66 battle with N.C. Wesleyan in the first 20 minutes of play. Even scoring in the second half was not good enough to out pace the Bishops' 10-point lead at the half.
The visitors held a lead the entire first half, but Meredith was in striking distance until the final seconds of the period.
Wesleyan's leading rebounder Kourtney Salisbury grabbed back-to-back boards to send her team down the court for consecutive three-pointers closing the half with a 10-point lead.
The Bishops maintained control through six minutes of the second frame when a 16-2 Avenging Angel run pulled Meredith to within three at 9:14.
But Meredith's offense went cold, and N.C. Wesleyan took advantage as they advanced their position to take a 72-59 lead with 4:14 remaining in regulation.
Rah'nika Jones and McKenzi Edwards gave Meredith hope for a return hitting three consecutive jumpers with 64 seconds left on the clock. But missed opportunities from the Angels left Wesleyan out in front for good.
Edwards finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Jones lead all with 14 boards, seven on the offensive end, and 14 points for her first double-double this season. Keyanka Bailey dropped in 16 points, adding seven rebounds and two steals.
N.C. Wesleyan's Kourtney Salisbury posted a double-double with 12 assists and 10 rebounds. She helped three teammates to double-digit scoring, led by Tiffany Bell and Kenyata Harris.
Meredith hosts cross-town rival William Peace Wednesday night in USA South action. The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
