Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - After falling 3-1 in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader versus tenth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan, Meredith senior Ashley Green gave the Avenging Angels a fighting chance in game two with a three-RBI home run in the seventh inning.
Down 6-2 heading into the bottom of the frame, Katlyn Johnson led off with a single to right. Leah Friedman advanced on an error, and Green scored both in the next at-bat.
Down by just one run with no outs, Amanda White advanced to first on a base-on-balls as the tying run. A pitching change led to three consecutive outs leaving White on base at the end of the game and Meredith with a disappointing 6-5 loss.
Whitney Williams posted four hits on the day to lead Meredith, adding one RBI. Rookies Alyssa D'Arco and Macy Allen tallied two hits apiece, with second baseman D'Arco adding two RBI.
Amanda Beirne and Taylor Lynn Moore split the losses on the day for Meredith. Beirne struckout eight batters, walked eight and allowed four earned runs in her 12 innings pitched.
The Marlins' Tori Higginbotham and Kayla Malkos notched four hits with two RBI apiece. MacKenzie Creeh and Kristina Karagiorgis each recorded her third win on the season for Wesleyan.
Meredith heads South this weekend for a USA South two-day event. The Avenging Angels face LaGrange beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and Huntingdon at Noon (CST) Sunday. Both play dates include a league doubleheader.
