LAGRANGE, Ga. - The Meredith College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 4-3 and 5-3, at LaGrange College in Saturday's USA South opener.

Avenging Angel shortstop Amanda White jumpstarted today's opener with a two-run homer to right center field, her third long ball on the season.

After holding LaGrange scoreless for two frames, the Panthers put two on base with a dropped fly ball and the other hit-by-pitch. Alison Jiles hit a home run to give LC a one-run lead heading into the fourth.

Neither team touched home plate again until Meredith's Ashley Green scored Courtney Saunders in the top of the sixth frame to tie the game at three.

In the bottom of the sixth, Amanda Beirne struckout the leadoff and advanced Olivia Wolfe with a base-on-balls. Wolfe advanced on the next at-bat and scored on a single-RBI from Keeley Murray to give LaGrange the lead.

The Panthers subbed in Wolfe to pitch and held Meredith scoreless in the top of the seventh to win game one 4-3.

The hosts carried the momentum into game two and scored five runs on five hits and one error in the bottom of the first.

After leaving three runners on base in the third inning, Meredith's Whitney Williams and Saunders advanced on singles. Lorri Cole moved both runners with a sacrifice, and Cheyenne Parrish drove the runners home to put the Avenging Angels on the board.

Saunders scored one more run on an RBI-single in the next inning, but the Panthers held Meredith the rest of the way to capture the 5-3 win.

Beirne took both losses on the day allowing nine runs with eight strikeouts, four base-on-balls.

Wolfe and Dani Gravett each earned her third win in today's action.

The Avenging Angels next head to Alabama to face USA South newcomer Huntingdon College. Sunday's doubleheader is slated for a 1 p.m. (CST) start.
