ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Senior catcher Lorri Cole launched a three-RBI home run in the top of the fifth inning of Wednesday's nightcap to force a split with the N.C. Wesleyan Battling Bishops. Meredith College lost game one 2-0 and earned the split with a 7-4 game two.

In spite of out hitting N.C. Wesleyan 7-to-6 in the opening game, the Bishops held on for a 2-0 shutout.

The Avenging Angels left nine runners on base in the loss.

Game two opened with a pair of singles from Angels Courtney Saunders and Amanda White. The runners set up Cole's two-RBI double to put Meredith on the scoreboard in the top of the first.

The Bishops tied the score in the bottom of the frame with Macy Allen headed to the plate for the Avenging Angels.

Allen doubled to right and Amanda Beirne followed with a fielder's choice on the next at-bat. Beirne eventually scored to give Meredith a 3-2 lead.

Wesleyan was quick to tie the score with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the second before a Meredith rally sealed the win.

With runners on the corners in the top of the fourth, Ashley Green hit a single to left and scored Saunders.

A pair of ground outs left Beirne to strikeout the third batter for a three-up-three-down frame to hold on to a one run lead heading into the fifth.

Katyln Johnson and White advanced on a pair of base-on-balls to ready for Cole's dinger to push the Avenging Angels out front for the win.

Beirne posted a record of 1-1 on the day, earning five runs with 13 strikeouts for Meredith. Leanna Fann earned the Bishop win, and Jasmine Edgren took the loss.

The Avenging Angels are slated to host the Methodist Monarchs Saturday in a USA South doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. With just six games remaining in the conference regular season schedule, Meredith is fighting for one of eight invitations to the USA South Tournament.
