Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College basketball team dropped their second game of the season Tuesday evening to Emory and Henry College, 78-55. Laquetta Hairston notched a team-high 14 points as she led the offense against a strong defensive opponent.
The Wasps came out of the gate shooting as they held a 24-10 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play. Emory and Henry played a quick and organized style of basketball that allowed them to control the pace of the game.
Meghan Pleasants led the Angels at halftime with nine points and one rebound. Tamara Brewster led the Wasps with 11 points, including one three-pointer as the second quarter came to a close.
E&H extended their lead to a commanding 68-33 by the end of the third period. The Avenging Angels were outscored 25-8 during the quarter, shooting just 23.1 percent to 52.6 from the visitors.
Scoring 11-of-14 points in the fourth period, Hairston appeared to be the only Angel who could find space on the floor. But her efforts fell short as E&H maintained control in the final minutes to claim the victory.
Ashley Hudson tallied 12 points for the Angels and drove the offense with four assists. Kim Hinton led Meredith with six boards, and Nicole Miller grabbed five.
Emory and Henry's Asja Jenkins and Karina Farr led the Wasps with 14 points apiece as the team shot 48.4 percent from the field on the night.
Meredith returns to action Friday at the Mary Washington Tip-Off Tournament. The Avenging Angels are set to face Lehman at 5 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Follow the action live HERE.
