Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith College basketball team collected a 71-35 win over Mary Baldwin in Sunday's USA South action. As the final game of this year's home series, Head Coach Melinda Campbell and her team recognized seniors McKenzi Edwards, Danielle Lee, Diana Owens and Brittaney Rice just prior to tip-off.
The Avenging Angels set the tone in the opening minutes of play as Lee found Rice on the wing for back-to-back threes.
The game's leading scorer, Mary Baldwin's Kaybria Johnson dropped in three of her own to push the Squirrels out front by one at 15:19. But Meredith demonstrated her shooting depth as seven different players scored during a 19-0 run to give the Angels a 27-9 advantage with less than five minutes left in the half.
Meredith would continue this trend through the nearly 25 minutes remaining in regulation.
The Avenging Angels spread their wings on the day as 11-of-15 players contributed to the point total. Rice led Meredith with 14, Raven Gregory followed with 11, and Lee and Stephanie Girard added 10 apiece.
Owens added four points, four rebounds, and Kim Hinton posted nine points and led with a game high 13 boards.
As the Avenging Angels enter the final week of regular season play, each of the next three games will be critical to tournament seeding beginning with William Peace Wednesday, Feb. 18. Meredith slipped past the Pacers by six points during the first meeting earlier this season.
A ticket will be required for admission to Wednesday's game scheduled for 7 p.m. on the campus of WPU. Meredith students, faculty and staff may claim a ticket on a first-come-first-served basis Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 12:30 p.m. in Weatherspoon 17. Due to limited seating, few tickets are available, so pick up your free ticket early. A valid Meredith CamCard is required at time of pickup.
The Meredith Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will partner with cross-town rival William Peace to collect "Funds for Fun!" during the basketball game at Peace. Both SAAC's will be collecting funds at the door to be donated to local charities.
If the pending winter weather causes a change in the campus schedule Tuesday morning, tickets will be made available Wednesday at 10 a.m. Contact Assistant Athletic Director Wendy Jones at joneswen@meredith.edu with questions.
