Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RALEIGH, N.C. - The visiting William Peace Pacers collected a pair of grand slam home runs to help secure a doubleheader sweep over Meredith College in Sunday's USA South action. WPU earned a 7-5 victory in game one and capped off the day with a 6-4 win in game two.

In game one the Angels got on the board in the first when Brittany Bucklin singled through the middle to score Maria Annunziata from second.

Peace scored a pair of runs during the next three innings to take a 2-1 lead, but Meredith knocked in two more in the bottom of four to edge back in front.

The game began to unravel in the top of the sixth as the Pacers tied the game on an infield error. With two outs registered Heather McLean subbed in as the next batter and drilled a grand slam homer over the center field fence to put the Pacers up by four.

Meredith made a run at WPU in the bottom of the seventh, as Maria Annunziata walked and Brittany Bucklin moved her to the corner on a single down the right field line. Courtney Saunders scored Annunziata, and Lauren Marbrey loaded the basis with a single to left.

Hayley Ervin entered to run for Marbrey and all three baserunners advanced on a passed ball to pull the Angels to within two. But the Pacers closed out the inning leaving the tying run stranded on second.

Game two opened with a 2-0 WPU lead, and Eran Artigues finally put Meredith on the board in the bottom of five with a RBI-single.

But Lindsey Wiggins blasted the Pacers' second grand slam on the day to give the visitors a 6-1 advantage.

Bucklin scored Saunders in the bottom of the frame, and Katlyn Johnson scored Erica Occena in a two-RBI home run in the seventh. But Peace ended the Angels' run to steal the second win on the day.

Both teams joined the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in today's Strike Out ALS event. The Meredith Avenging Angels collected pledges per strikeout in advance of the douleheader and more than $150 was collected during the day. All pledges and gifts will be donated to the Pete Frates #3 Fund.

Meredith is scheduled to host the Ferrum Panthers Thursday afternoon in a USA South doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
