Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - After a 14-0 five-inning loss to N.C. Wesleyan in game one, the Meredith College softball team rallied to cap off the day with an 11-4 game-two victory in Friday's USA South doubleheader. Head Coach Kim Scavone and her squad recognized the successful four-year career of senior Amanda White in between games.
Meredith struggled to defend against Wesleyan's 10 hits in the opening game, and a series of miscues along the way added to the challenge. But after enjoying a break in the action with a celebration for White, the Angels regrouped for a comeback. Meredith nearly took care of the Bishops in six innings to earn their first win in 13 games.
Wesleyan drove in a run to open game two, but White responded with a three-RBI dinger over the center field fence to give the Angels a 3-1 lead heading into the second.
The Bishops added two more in the top of two, and rookie Janie Robinson kept Meredith's rally going on a two-out homer in the bottom of the frame.
After two scoreless innings, the Angels gave up a Wesleyan run on a pair of missteps in the top of the fifth but managed to get out of the inning leaving two more Bishops on base.
Lauren Marbrey led off with a single in the bottom of the frame, and Kayla North entered to run. White advanced on a walk, and Brittany Bucklin drilled a ball down the right field line to score both.
The Meredith defense took care of N.C. Wesleyan in the top of the sixth and the Angels rallied in the bottom of the inning to add five more runs to the scoreboard.
Erica Occena advanced on a single and stole second in time for Alyssa D'Arco to send her home on a single up the middle. Marbrey jump-started a series of base hits for the Angels, as three of the next four at-bats scored on a RBI-single to drive the Meredith lead to seven.
Wesleyan advanced the leadoff batter on an error in the top of seven, but the Angels handled the next three batters to end the game with a victory.
