Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College dropped a pair of softball games to the visiting Greensboro Pride in Tuesday's final home series. A downpour paused the action early in game one, but the USA South action resumed as the clouds parted.
The Pride loaded the bases in the first inning of game one and walked in the first run. A wild pitch added another, but one more base-on-balls forced a pitching change by Meredith Head Coach Kim Scavone. Greensboro added four more runs on a trio of singles to take an early 6-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the frame, Amanda White scored Erica Occena on a double to center field to put the Angels on the board.
GC's bats continued to swing as the Pride added three more runs on five hits in the top of the second just before the weather delay.
After sitting on the sidelines much of the season due to injury, Katie Kepley made her collegiate pitching debut in the fourth inning of game one. She allowed just one hit in the next four at-bats to return Meredith to the dugout. The Angels missed the opportunity just to bring Greensboro back to the plate after three at-bats, and the Pride added one more run to take a 10-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the fifth.
The Avenging Angels loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning, but back-to-back infield outs ended the game early.
Greensboro started strong in game two as well. After scoring first on a solo home run in the second inning, the Pride tallied five more runs on four hits and one miscue.
Meredith responded in kind opening the bottom of the third inning on a double from White and a single to right from Kayla North. Sarah Watson scored White, but North was caught heading home on the next pitch. Brittany Bucklin drove in Watson, and Janie Robinson scored Bucklin to pull the Angels to within three at 6-3.
But the Pride added five more en route to an 11-3 victory to capture the sweep.
The Avenging Angels will close out the 2015 season Sunday afternoon at Mary Baldwin. The USA South doubleheader is slated to begin at Noon in Staunton, Virginia. Follow the games live HERE.
