Box Score STAUNTON, Va. -- The Meredith College basketball squad took care of business at Mary Baldwin Saturday afternoon with a 99-63 victory. The Avenging Angels out rebounded the hosts 68-33 for 29 second chance points to make the difference in the game. Six Angels finished in double-digits.
Laquette Hairston led the charge for Meredith with an and-one play in the first minute of the game. The play gave the Angels their first lead, and Meredith never looked back.
Kim Hinton continued the pressure as the Avenging Angels scored the next eight points. Hinton, along with Raven Gregory and Meghan Pleasants helped Meredith score 66 of the team's points in the paint en route to their first USA South Conference win on the season.
Jessi Hayes led the Angels with 19 points, 18 rebounds, and Gregory offered up a game high 21 boards, adding 18 points. Hairston recorded 17 points, and Hinton finished the night with 16 to go along with 11 rebounds. Gabi Jessup and Chandler Hines added 11 apiece in the win.
Kaybria Johnson and Juanaysa Singletary led the offensive effort for the Fighting Squirrels with 25 and 21 points, respectively.
Meredith returns to Weatherspoon Gym for a battle with crosstown rival William Peace Tuesday, Jan. 12, in a 7 p.m. tipoff. The Pacers will look for their first conference win next week.
