Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- In spite of an 84-51 loss Saturday to the host Ferrum College Panthers, the Meredith College basketball squad clinched the eighth seed in next week's USA South Conference Tournament. The Avenging Angels are slated to face off with tournament host and top seed Maryville Scots Thursday, Feb. 25, in Tennessee.
Gabi Jessup proved to be the only silver lining in Meredith's poor shooting effort today. The Angels shot just 27.5 percent from the field, their least effective performance since mid-January.
But Ferrum's Kemani Crawford scored a game-high 21 points with nine rebounds to lead the Panthers. Three of her teammates also recorded double-digit points to support Crawford, and Zarkia Mattox added nine additional rebounds in the win.
Jessi Hayes finished with nine points, four boards, and Stephanie Girard tallied three assists in the loss.
The Avenging Angels remain on the road Sunday as the team caps off the regular season at Averett University. Tipoff versus the Cougars is slated for 2 p.m. in the Grant Center.
